Epiphany

Today I had an epiphany. You don’t want to know about web design. you hired me so you didn't have to learn about it. And like you, there are certain things I don’t want to learn about. I like steak, but I don’t want to learn about how cows become steak. I am interested in learning how to pick out a good steak. So this month, instead of telling you about web design, I am going to tell you how to pick out a good web design “steak”.

Why did you get a website? The simplest answer is that you thought it could make your life easier. So let me share with you a few ways to make your life even easier:

1. Stop writing e-mails over and over. We all receive e-mails asking the same questions over and over consistent basis. Instead of drafting a reply to these e-mails each time, create an AutoResponder to send them the answer you‘ve already written down. For example, one of my clients receives e-mails from students looking for housing, an auto responder could send those students an e-mail right back directing them to a list of currently available housing. We will help you draft your auto-response e-mail and set up an auto responder.

2. Have someone else write your eNewsletter. As a small business owner or employee you are swamped. You know you should do more marketing, and you may know that research conducted by the Direct Marketing Association shows email marketing generated an ROI of $43.62 for every $1 spent in 2009, but when do you, or your co workers have time to do it? We helped you draft the content on your current web site, and we can help you draft your newsletter too. 3. Stop doing all the selling. Create a referral or affiliate system. If someone refers customers to your business, reward them. Give them free products or services, give them a Starbucks gift card, or even cash. Turn your most loyal and outspoken customers into a cheap, but effective sales force.
